Radiation Oncology Community Engagement: Welcome!

The Department of Radiation Oncology fully embraces the importance of Community Engagement in all aspects of its three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and students.  Our advocacy takes many forms across the landscape of our department. At its foundation is the investment of our leadership, faculty, trainees and staff in programs and initiatives that strive to promote cultural humility and empathy.  In the following pages, we highlight some of the resources and programs through which we commit to furthering engagement both within our department and our local community. These pages contain educational material and information on our latest initiatives, as well as guides on community groups and resources within Radiation Oncology and Penn Medicine. We invite you to visit the site regularly, as we continue to update and expand material!

The videos below are just some examples of what we do --join us!

Mission of the Radiation Oncology Committee on Community Engagement (CCE):

The Committee on Community Engagement of the Department of Radiation Oncology is committed to ensuring that cultural humility and empathy are embedded in the way we function. This includes through the ongoing education and sponsorship of our team members, our interactions with patients, and our presence in the community.  We work to grow involvement in initiatives that support this culture.

Mission of the CCE Education and Resources Subcommittee:

The Subcommittee on Resources and Education was established to support and further the values of the Committee on Community Engagement within our department.  With the resources that our committee develops, we seek to advance cultural awareness and facilitate involvement in our local community to meet the needs of its members.

Mission of the CCE Messaging and Patient Engagement Subcommittee:

The Subcommittee on Messaging and Patient Engagement seeks to build a culture of community with our Radiation Oncology patients.  We act to foster and strengthen patient support and engagement by working to identify needs that may affect our community of patients.

Mission of the CCE Community Outreach Subcommittee:

The Subcommittee on Community Outreach strives to support the communities where we work and live, including through educational pipeline programs that serve local students.  It is our mission to identify, innovate and participate in opportunities to further a humble culture that extends beyond the walls of our clinics to the community at large.
