One of the largest and most respected programs in the world, Penn Radiation Oncology is changing the way that patients fight cancer. Penn Radiation Oncology offers the latest technology and treatment options, all of which are delivered by doctors who are leaders in their field. Here, patients have early access to the cutting leading edge of research and clinical advances.

Penn Radiation Oncology was established in 1977, as an outgrowth of the Departments of Surgery and Radiology. Dr. Stanley Baum (named the fifth chair of Radiology in 1975), noted the national movement toward the separation of diagnostic and therapeutic radiology and which led to Dr. Robert Goodman becoming the first chair of the newly independent Department of Radiation Oncology in 1977.   In 2015, Dr. Jim Metz became the sixth chair of Penn Radiation Oncology.
