Quantitative Fluorescence Imaging and Radiation Services

The Radiation Oncology Department provides these services through the 'Hypoxia-Imaging Service Center', which recently has been expanded to include radiation facilities (a precision, cone-beam-CT guided X-ray machine (see 'SARRP'), a general purpose X-ray machine (for cells) and two cesium irradiators. The cesium irradiators and SARRP are located in the John Morgan building, the general purpose X-ray machine on 8th floor STRC, and the fluorescence imaging split between both locations with identical capabilities. Information for SARRP use (which requires operator and advisory support from the facility manager) as well as information for the general purpose X-ray machine can be obtained by contacting Khayrullo Shoniyozov, PhD. The fluorescence imaging services include Nikon Eclipse fluorescence microscopes with computer-controlled stage, and low-noise cooled CCD cameras. Numerous methods have been developed to quantify use of this instrument specifically for the detection of hypoxia, but the equipment can be used for any type of fluorescence measurement.
